Looks like this Wednesday will be the bankruptcy auction for Channelside. The top 3 contenders are CBP Development (controlled by Tampa Lightning owner Jeff Vinik), Liberty Channelside, LLC (controlled by local real estate investors Santosh Govindaraju and Punit Shah), and the port itself. My guess is that Vinik will win it. He has a need and desire to want to improve the area since the Tampa Bay Times Forum is next door where his Lightning play. His vision of turning Channelside into a Channelside Live similar to L.A. Live in Los Angeles is pretty exciting. He definitely wowed the port’s governing board today in presentations made on prospective plans. Liberty Channelside did not show up.
I’m excited to see Tampa improve! Perhaps after this, they will do something with the decrepit downtown area.
